In a recent session, the Modesto City Council unanimously approved a 6.2% salary increase for both the mayor and council members. This decision follows the recommendation of the Citizen’s Salary Setting Commission and reflects the council’s commitment to fair compensation for its members.
Pending final approval at a public hearing scheduled for mid-May, the mayor’s annual salary is set to rise from $54,000 to $57,348, while council members will see an increase from $30,000 to $31,860 per year. This adjustment aims to acknowledge the responsibilities and time commitments associated with these roles.
In addition to the salary adjustments, the council is actively exploring the possibility of transitioning these positions to full-time roles. This consideration stems from the evolving demands and complexities of city governance, which may require a more substantial time investment from elected officials.
Community members are encouraged to participate in the upcoming public hearing to share their perspectives on these proposed changes. Engaging in this process ensures that the decisions made align with the needs and expectations of Modesto’s residents.
